Black Swan Ahead: Strategic Insights and Preparations for Uncertain Times

Market Rally This Year. Really?

Stock markets in major economies has been performing very well year to date.

Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 3.93% year to date. The Nasdaq Composite Index is up 8.19% this year and the S&P 500 Index is up 9.14% year to date.

In other major economies, the FTSE 100 Index is up 2.61% while the DAX is up 9.14% this year. The Nikkei 225 Index is the best performer with a 17.89% gain. The only exceptions are Hong Kong and Singapore which has seen the stock market decline this year.

However…

We are going to see a total solar eclipse on 8 April 2024 sweeping across the United States.

Solar eclipse especially total solar eclipse are bad omen and usually associate with bad events occurring between 1-5 months after eclipse.

The Wall Street Crash of 1929 occurred 5 months after total solar eclipse in May 1929.

The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on 7 December 1941 occurred after total solar eclipse in September 1941.

Fast forward to the Asia Financial crisis in 1997, the attack on Thai Baht in May 1997, triggering the devaluation of many South East Asia currencies occurred after the total solar eclipse in Mar 1997

The collapse of Lehman brothers in September 2008 occurred after the total solar eclipse in August 2008.

Of course, one can argue that total solar eclipse occur very often but we do not always see crisis or black swan event.

Let’s Anticipate

We now use Chinese Metaphysics to see what might happen.

From the 2024 bazi chart, we see there no wealth element in the 2^nd and third pillar. Hence, we can see that a black Swan event might just happen in the 2^nd or 3^rd quarter, which coincide with the total solar eclipse in April.

In addition, though the heavenly stem seems good and the element producing each other. However, if one were to look closer there are heaven earth clash between the first and third pillar, heaven and earth clash between the second and fourth pillar.

In addition, the 2024 mother earth oracle has indicated there will be high food prices. We already started seeing inflation rearing its ugly head again with rising cocoa, coffee and oil prices and yet many investors and analysts think that the Fed will cut rates 3-4 times this year.

Mother Earth oracle has been very accurate so far and even predicted Covid19.

We just seen a very strong earthquake occured in Taiwan on 3 April 2024 and is just 5 days before eclipse.

Hence, investors need to be careful during this second and third quarter and I strongly advise to keep sufficient warchest to buy cheap stocks in the event that a black swan really happens.

We are definitely going to see a volatile year ahead of us and even the next few years.

From the above, seems like something bad is coming. Personally, from fundamental point of view, bearing in mind of the following:

Yen Carry Trade
Rising interest rates (although SG banks like UOB cut rate starting from May, but Fed 10 years rate are actually increasing)

Dow supported by Magnificence Seven ONLY and keep up for the past few years
Crypto breaking past ATH with so many stories that Crypto will replace fiat
Gold rising to high level (usually this signal flight to safety)

I believe that some correction/crash is coming. The extend of the drop I am not sure but definitely won’t be nice, likely trapping lots of FOMO people.

Personally, I am keeping cash (around 40%, exclude my SSBs as the super warchest) to take advantages of the situation. What about you?
