CareYourPresent: The Power of Being in the Now

Posted on January 22, 2025January 20, 2025 by careyourpresent

CareYourPresent: The Power of Being in the Now

In today’s fast-paced world filled with endless responsibilities, social media notifications, and perpetual multitasking, truly living in the moment often feels elusive. Yet, focusing on the present—the here and now—is fundamental to achieving peace of mind and a sense of fulfillment. CareYourPresent is more than a concept; it’s a guiding principle encouraging mindfulness and purposeful living.

REMIND YOURSELF on the followings!

Understanding the Present Moment

To live in the moment, or practice mindfulness, is to be fully engaged in your current experience without distractions or judgment. It involves:

  • Awareness: Observing your thoughts, emotions, and environment.
  • Acceptance: Embracing the present without resistance or attachment.
  • Participation: Fully immersing yourself in what you’re doing right now, rather than lingering on the past or worrying about the future.

This approach promotes numerous benefits, from reducing stress to enriching relationships and fostering a greater appreciation for life’s everyday beauty.

Why Focusing on the Now Matters

The present is the only time you truly have. The past exists as a memory, and the future is merely a possibility. By focusing on the present, you can:

  1. Support Mental Wellness: Mindfulness helps alleviate anxiety and depression by interrupting cycles of negative thought patterns.
  2. Build Stronger Connections: Being fully engaged with others enhances trust and understanding.
  3. Enhance Productivity: Concentrating on one task at a time leads to better efficiency and creativity.
  4. Cultivate Gratitude: Awareness of the present moment fosters an appreciation for what you have.

Practical Ways to CareYourPresent

Nurturing your connection to the present moment takes deliberate effort. Here are steps to make mindfulness part of your daily routine:

  1. Start the Day Mindfully: Begin your morning with a few deep breaths and a positive intention.
  2. Practice Gratitude: Reflect on what you’re thankful for, whether it’s a good meal, a kind gesture, or the sunrise.
  3. Minimize Distractions: Dedicate specific times to be free from technology and focus on meaningful activities.
  4. Engage Your Senses: Tune into what you see, hear, smell, taste, and feel to ground yourself in the moment.
  5. Focus on Your Breath: When overwhelmed, take a few slow breaths to recenter yourself.
  6. Reflect Each Evening: Spend a few minutes reviewing moments where you were present and consider ways to improve.

Navigating the Challenges

Living in the now isn’t always easy. Modern life often pulls attention in multiple directions. However, even small, consistent steps can make a big difference. When your mind wanders, gently guide it back to the present without frustration. Over time, this practice becomes more natural.

A Lasting Mindset

CareYourPresent is an invitation to experience life as it unfolds. By valuing the present, ordinary moments can transform into meaningful ones. As Lao Tzu wisely said, “If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present.”

Take a moment now to pause, breathe, and ask yourself: How can I honor this very moment? The answer might surprise you.

WRONG!

I don’t need to show impressive things to sell courses, earn commissions, the above course is fake! I Don’t sell any course!

If I count my total return for last year, it is of low single digit only! (REITs are the culprits, haha)!

Do you still believe in what those GURUs show you to impress you before you sign up for their course? If there are so GURUs in the first place and can earn so much in their investments, why do they sell you course and charge you a fee? Might as well they spent more time to grow their own investments? Or perhaps one may argue that they are altruism, want to share their knowledge to the world, why do they still charge you?

Of course, if you love your career, and consciously know that you are missing out the first time your child walk or talk, that’s ok, but if you are the other spectrum, please do something about it.

Your kids grew up and they no longer need you to accompany them. They no longer want to sit on your lap to share/do things with you…all these time you spent in your 9 to 6 or even longer cubicles…can the money that you have earned by you back these?

Life is short

Posted on January 17, 2025January 17, 2025 by careyourpresent

My mum passed away in Jan 2023. Time really flies. It has been 2 years. Life is really short and recently I am busying with many things in life where I couldn’t really have time to stop and take check in life.

And suddenly I will be 42 years old soon. My kids were babies, felt like they were just borned, suddenly one is in Primary One another one in Primary Four.

Life really files. The days are long but the years are short. One idea suddenly struck me to estimate how much time I am left with assuming I am lucky using ChatGPT.

Less than 5 digits of days left IF I AM lucky.

I URGE reader to go count too then you will only realised how short life is.

CAREYOURPRESENT

live in the moment now. Be happy everyday.

Time Flies – End of Year 2024

Posted on December 19, 2024March 7, 2025 by careyourpresent

Time flies, it’s the end of the year 2024 again.

Personal Updates

Move House and renovation

I haven’t been blogging much this year as I am busying selling my old flat and buying new flat. Both are HDB flats, and yes, I didn’t succumb to the CONDO dream of Singaporean.

On 22 Nov 2024 (Friday), I have officially moved into my new flat in Tengah and officially sold my old flat on 1 Nov 2024 (Friday).

The renovation really cost a bomb to me ~ about $45k excluding furnishing. If all in, maybe around $50k for this year!

I have also done lots of online shopping via shopee and tabo and I thought I should share these good buy with my readers. Unconsciously, I have become Platinum member of shopee. LOL!

https://collshp.com/careyourlobang

Debt Free

And finally on 22 Nov 2024, I have declared myself debt free. Likely I won’t shift again, shift house is too troublesome, unpacking, packing and renovation. Headache!

This is likely the last home until my last day on Earth.

Health

We always forget Health is Your Most Valuable Asset – But human only regret after they lost it and like to Trading a Guaranteed Today with an Uncertain Tomorrow. But what if later never come?

Generally my health has been good for the past few months. However, I can feel that I am getting old.

Starting to grow white moustaches, likely no white hair year. I used to have lots of energy but my energy level is getting lower. Easier to get tired but yet couldn’t sleep much. I can sleep at 1-2am but still work up at 6am plus, latest 7am in the morning. Sign of oldness…

Family

It’s been close to 2 years since my Mum passing on Jan 2023. My dad health is not getting well too. He got cancer previously and recovered, but now the cancer markers are getting higher and just went back for a scan. Hope for the best.

My kids are now 9 amd 6 years old. As of 2025, they will be Primary 4 and Primary respectively. Time really flies, The days are long but the years are short.

Reflection

I went to read back my past articles and do some reflection.

It might really be the time to slow down. There are only things which you can see when you slow down.

I tend to forget that I am 41 years old this year. If I am lucky, I still have slightly less than half of my life time till 80 years old. If not, I have already lived and left with less than half of my life.

But I always find myself hard to slow down. It’s in my character. If slow too down, but I dont know what I can do and feel bored. But is this really the life that I want?

On 26 July 2024 this year, I did a reflection. Let’s see how I fare today 19 Dec 2024.

Wealth

If we talks about the traditional initial withdrawal rate for my family spendings, it’s 3.11% (exclude CPF). If we talk about cashflow from interest and dividends, its about 1.3x of spendings or 0.98x if we assume 30% cut in interests and dividends (excluding CPF which already hit both FRS in SA and max MA for both my spouse and I, with about 120k in CPF OA in total, house fully paid).

Shall I slow down and relax to catch the last few precious years where my kids really need me?

PSA Annoucement: Life of a minion

Posted on September 25, 2024September 25, 2024 by careyourpresent

Well, life of a minion is what many people live everyday. Today is more interesting. It been many years since this happen again.

Just in case you are not aware:

No MRT services between Boon Lay and Queenstown stations for at least the rest of the day: LTA

From 5pm, SMRT will run a separate shuttle train service between Buona Vista and Queenstown MRT stations, and also between Jurong East and Boon Lay stations, at intervals of 10 minutes.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/mrt-train-services-east-west-line-boon-lay-queenstown-no-service-4634586

I love this picture. Legendary.

Source: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/mrt-train-services-ewl-boon-lay-queenstown-power-fault-east-west-line-4633706

From ChatGPT

Ever had the pleasure of riding a packed MRT train during rush hour? It’s like starring in your very own episode of “Sardines in a Can.” The moment those train doors slide open, you see the herd inside, already pressed together like human Tetris, yet somehow you think, “Yeah, I can fit in there!” And in you go, defying the laws of physics, with just enough room to hold your breath but not your dignity. Strangers become your best friends as you bond over shared sweat and accidental elbow jabs. At that moment, personal space isn’t just a luxury—it’s a distant memory, like your last nap or any hope of sitting down!

Interest Rate Cut on the Horizon…what’s next?

Posted on September 17, 2024September 17, 2024 by careyourpresent

Interest Rate Cut on the Horizon…what’s next? This must be in the mind of many investors, especially for those into sensitive to rate instruments, such as S-REITS.

Before the actual rate cut in the next few days, SREITs are up by more than 10% for the past few weeks.
Congrats to fellow investors! I think my portfolio at least up by 50k or more.

Rates are already down

Before official rate cut announced by Fed, the rates are starting to come down. One can see from the Fixed deposits offered by banks, SSB coming down, treasury yield coming down etc…

I have already locked 400k worth (together with spouse) in SSB as emergency fund… guess just collect 1k per month worth of cash for the next 10 years at average rate of 3+%.

So what’s next?

For me I will have investible cash, waiting for pound on next opportunities. Meanwhile just keep calm and enjoyed the harvests that I have planted for the past few months/years.

Let’s ask AI

This is the question that I have input
“Interest rate cut on the horizon. what is next?”

FROM MS Co-pilot.

It looks like an interest rate cut is indeed on the horizon, with the Federal Reserve expected to make its first rate cut in years, possibly as soon as September12. This potential cut is largely driven by cooling inflation and a job market that no longer threatens to overheat the economy2.

Here are a few things that might happen next:

  1. Lower Borrowing Costs: If the Fed cuts rates, borrowing costs for consumers and businesses could decrease. This includes lower mortgage and auto-loan rates2.
  2. Increased Refinancing: Homeowners might see an opportunity to refinance their mortgages at lower rates1.
  3. Stock Market Reactions: Financial markets have already started to price in the expected rate cuts, so we might see some volatility as investors adjust their strategies1.
  4. Economic Growth: Lower interest rates can stimulate economic growth by making it cheaper to borrow and invest2.

FROM CHATGPT

When central banks cut interest rates, it’s typically a response to slowing economic growth or low inflation, with the aim of stimulating the economy. The implications of an interest rate cut can unfold in various ways:

  1. Lower Borrowing Costs: Consumers and businesses benefit from reduced borrowing costs. Loans, mortgages, and credit often become cheaper, encouraging spending and investment. This can stimulate economic growth in areas such as housing, business expansion, and consumer spending.
  2. Weaker Currency: Interest rate cuts often lead to a weaker domestic currency, as lower rates make a country’s assets less attractive to foreign investors. A weaker currency can boost exports by making them more competitive internationally, but it can also lead to higher import costs and inflation.
  3. Stock Market Boost: Equities tend to rise in response to rate cuts because companies can finance growth more cheaply, and investors often move out of low-yielding bonds and into stocks. This can create short-term stock market rallies.
  4. Bond Market Response: Bond prices typically rise as interest rates fall, since the existing bonds with higher interest rates become more attractive. However, future bond issuances may offer lower yields.
  5. Real Estate Market Surge: Lower interest rates can fuel the housing market by making mortgages more affordable. This can lead to increased home sales and higher property values, although it can also increase housing affordability challenges in already hot markets.
  6. Inflation Risk: Prolonged low interest rates can lead to inflationary pressures if demand overheats. Central banks need to balance between stimulating growth and keeping inflation in check.
  7. Savings Impact: Lower interest rates tend to reduce returns on savings and fixed-income investments, which may affect savers, particularly retirees relying on interest income.

Next steps will depend on how the economy responds:

  • Further cuts or unconventional measures: If the rate cut isn’t enough to spur growth, central banks could signal more cuts or even deploy unconventional tools like quantitative easing (buying bonds to inject liquidity).
  • Monitoring inflation and growth data: Central banks will closely monitor economic indicators to decide if more action is necessary.
  • Market and investor reaction: Investors may adjust portfolios, shifting from bonds to stocks or real assets like commodities, depending on the perceived future economic conditions.

Hi AI

AI are getting more powerful each day. Maybe one day we will have Ultron taking over the world. Who know? So what do you think will happen next after rate cut?

Most importantly, what is your plan now?

Good articles that you should read!

We always thought that we have more time with our spouse every day, but we are wrong. One day they will be gone too. When you read this, please go tell your spouse that you love him/her and he or she is the best thing that you ever had in your life.
