Embracing the Transience: Life Is Short

Posted on June 23, 2023September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

Many people live as though they will live forever. Everything can wait later. But sometimes life won’t wait for you. Treasure your life and don’t live a life of regret. Always live the best of your every day and every single moment if possible. Anytime, anyone, that are dearest to you could be injured, fall sick. And then…touch wood. So, treasure every moment with them whenever possible.

Scare of my Life

This week my family had a scare as my 5 years old daughter fell on scooter and hit her head two days ago on 21 Jun 2023 evening around 5pm. After that she kept on vomiting, at least 6 times after the incident and was very drowsy. We had a huge scared and brought her to A&E.

After the checking by the hospital, we were told to send her to CT Head Scan as her case don’t look so good. I was worried What if Later never come?

For those who are unaware, CT Head Scan is not recommended for people (especially young kids) unless the benefits outweigh the risks. According to my research, the amount of radiation that you get from CT Head Scan is about ONE YEAR of natural radiation that you get. For a child, it will increase the risk of cancer over her life span…for about low xx over every 2000 scanned.

But given that scenario, we have no choice and the hospital consultant strongly recommend us to do the scan given that she kept vomitting for so many times within a short span after the incident. They are worried over brain damages. So we were told to go head. Luckily after the scan, they said that inside her head is ok and we could discharge. She still vomited after she went home at 3am but today seems to recover well. We still has to continue monitoring, hope all is well.

However, CT head scan already done, hopefully she won’t suffer from radiation effect in future. Cross finger.

Since besides talking about life, careyourpresent, this is also financial blog, I just want to share that the cost of CT Head Scan is not claimable by medisave and not covered by Hospital insurance since she was not hospitalized later. The total cost was about $700. This is not cheap. Money really can buy you option. Read: Who say money can’t buy you time?

Good articles that you should read!

People are drawn to dividend investing.

Why? Firstly, dividends provide a regular stream of income, allowing investors to receive a portion of the company’s profits on a periodic basis. This can be particularly attractive for individuals seeking consistent cash flow or looking to supplement their existing income. Additionally, dividend investing is often viewed as a more stable and predictable investment strategy compared to relying solely on capital appreciation.

Who say money can’t buy you time?

Posted on June 12, 2023September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

Money can’t buy you time?

Many people always say that time is finite and is more precious that money where the governments can print them at will. Money is infinite since it’s just something artificial created by the government. As for time, it’s finite, only 24 hours a day, human lifespan is also limited. Hence, money cannot buy time.

But is it true that money really cannot buy time?

Photo by Agê Barros on Unsplash

Future Value of Time

People tend to over-estimate how much time they will have in the future and undervalue their own time. But the truth is no one is immortal. What if tomorrow never come? What if later never come?

Many people are spending all their precious time to work, to earn money because they need money for almost everything in life. But the fact is you are using your time to exchange for a pay check.

Many people don’t realised that they spent majority of their waking hours, s working long hours just so they can afford luxuries like long vacations or new iPhones; while this may be fun in the short term (especially when traveling), over time these activities it’s just a way to escape the grinding days of your 9 to 6. Should you earn more or save more to get your time back?

Time or money more valuable?

Let’s talk about Time VS Money first.

Most people argue this:

  1. Time is more valuable than money because you can’t buy time back, no matter how much money you have. If you lose an hour, it’s gone forever and there’s no way to get it back–even if you wanted to do so (which would be impossible).
  2. Time is also more valuable than money because there are only 24 hours in a day and 7 days in a week; there’s no way to make more hours or days for yourself.
  3. Money also can’t buy a dead person to be alive again.
  4. Hence, Money can’t buy you time.

However, contrary to most belief, money still can buy you “time”, to buy it more appropriately, money can help you get more time back. Confuse?

Photo by Gaelle Marcel on Unsplash

Money can’t buy you time, but it can help you get more of it

Money can’t buy you time, but it can help you get more of it.

Money is a tool that allows us to work less, earn more, and enjoy our lives more once you have lots of it. People with money has more options than people with no money.

The key is knowing how to use this tool properly in order to get what we want out of life.

While it is true that money cannot literally buy time or add more hours to the day, it can certainly provide opportunities and resources that can indirectly save time or enhance one’s quality of life

While it is true that money cannot literally buy you time or add more hours to the day, it can certainly provide opportunities and resources that indirectly save time or enhance one’s quality of life.

Money is a tool to buy time.

For example: if you have enough money to hire someone else to do your laundry, then that frees up more time for yourself (and also helps keep things clean). Alternatively, if you have enough money to purchase a washing machine of your own instead of relying on communal facilities at work or school, then again there will be less waiting around while clothes get cleaned–and maybe even some extra space saved in your apartment!

For example, Money can buy you the following:

  • 1. Private car that save you time from communute
  • 2. Education and learning: Money can be used to invest in educational opportunities or specialized training. By doing so, you can acquire knowledge and skills more efficiently, potentially reducing the time it would have taken to learn through self-study or trial and error.
  • 3. Medical care: Access to quality healthcare services, which often requires financial resources, can facilitate prompt medical attention and treatments. This can potentially save time in terms of waiting for appointments, obtaining specialized care, or undergoing necessary procedures.
  • 4. Buy back time that you have sold to your work to get paycheck.

Use Money to buy back time

While Time is more important than money, Time is limited but Money is not. We should always aim to use your money to buy time when you have lots of money, that’s what a lot of rich people does!

While most has no choice but to exchange time for money (work) instead on spending on things that you love but limited time left (example your young kids and old parents), always aim to reach this level one day where you can use money to buy back time.

What if Later never come?

Posted on June 8, 2023September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

Every day, chasing…

Everyday we are chasing for more and more money, in order to provide better life to yourself and especially to your loved ones. We always told ourselves that once we reach 1 Million example, we will quit job and spent your finite precious time with your love ones.

However, it’s never enough. When we have 1 million, we will aim for 2 millions. When we have 2 millions, we will aim for 3 millions, 5 millions, 10 millions, 100 millions….in the process you become old and tired….then suddenly you may realised that

“LATER may never come”…

Your kids grew up and they no longer need you to accompany them. They no longer want to sit on your lap to share/do things with you…all these time you spent in your 9 to 6 or even longer cubicles…can the money that you have earned by you buy back these?

We always thought we have more time with our old parents, but we are wrong. Time with them is ticking away every day. One day it will suddenly be gone. There is no regret medicine, no reset in time. Gone is gone and cannot come back. No matter you are billionaires or millionaires, you cannot reset this.

We always thought that we have more time with our spouse every day, but we are wrong. One day they will be gone too. When you read this, please go tell your spouse that you love him/her and he or she is the best thing that you ever had in your life.

Watch this:

These are the Lyrics

[ISABEL]
When we first met
Your heart was free
Your hopeful eyes
Saw only me

Now you’re looking for something
Something I can never be
When you are really
All I need

You keep on telling me “later”
But “later” never comes around
Please stop telling me “later”
As you search for what just can’t be found

Take my hand
Come with me now and we’ll fly free
No more “later”, we both know that’s a lie
Don’t let be this the day I say

Goodbyе
Goodbye

[SCROOGE]
When you met hеr
You were set free
Her love for you
Was plain to see

You kept looking for something
A measure of security
But she was really
All you’d need

You kept on telling her “later”
But “later” never comes around
Please stop telling her “later”
Stop searching for what can’t be found

Take her hand
Go with her now and you’ll fly free
No more “later”, we both know that’s a lie
This will be the day she says
Goodbye

[ISABEL]
Goodbye

[SCROOGE]
Goodbye

[ISABEL]
Goodbye

What will you bring with you on your last day on Earth?

Posted on May 21, 2023September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

Time is the ultimate currency, not money

Posted on May 11, 2023September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

Ultimate currency of life

Although I write finance things most of the time like other finance bloggers, but I am slightly differently. Time to time, I also write some philosophical (or to some, it’s bullshit, talk too much stories with no value since I am not talking about money) article to remind myself and everyone life itself is the end goal, not money. Don’t just pursue money and forgot about life itself.

Let me write something about time and money today.

Money of Freedom

Money just buy you the chance of freedom. When you are young and working, you exchange time for money. When you are old, you can have lots of money but you can’t buy time back, especially the things that you have missed while busying striking out in career. Of course, if you love your career, and consciously know that you are missing out the first time your child walk or talk, that’s ok, but if you are the other spectrum, please do something about it.

What is time?

Time is a currency that is equally distributed to every person on earth, and yet it is one that we often take for granted. While we may strive to accumulate wealth and material possessions, time is the one resource that we cannot buy from anyone and anywhere. It is finite and fleeting, and once it’s gone, we can never get it back. This is why time is considered the ultimate currency, and why it’s important to use it wisely.

Value of time

To truly understand the value of time, we must first consider the nature of money. Money is a currency that can be exchanged for goods and services, and it’s often seen as a measure of success or achievement. We work hard to earn money, and we use it to buy the things that we need and want. However, while money can buy us material possessions, it cannot buy us time. But many don’t understand this and just pursue more and more money.

Time, on the other hand, is a resource that is not finite. We are given a certain amount of time in our lives, and we can choose how we spend it. When you are a baby, you are a time billionaire. As you grow up, you will has less and less time. One day suddenly, you will run out of time. Hence, time is an asset that we should all strive to use wisely, as it’s the one resource that we cannot replenish once it’s gone.

In pursue of money, we might have these regrets

In our relentless pursue of money, success in life, we might lots of regrets.

Since now is the Era of AI, I have asked CHATGPT to give me two things:

1. 20 Regrets of life

  1. Traveling to a dream destination
  2. Pursuing a lifelong passion or dream
  3. Telling someone how you really feel about them
  4. Spending more time with loved ones
  5. Forgiving someone who wronged you
  6. Trying a new hobby or activity
  7. Standing up for yourself or others when it mattered most
  8. Resolving a long-standing conflict with a friend or family member
  9. Apologizing for past mistakes and making amends
  10. Taking risks and stepping outside of your comfort zone
  11. Exploring different cultures and ways of life
  12. Learning a new language or skill
  13. Taking care of your physical and mental health
  14. Embracing your true identity and being true to yourself
  15. Building deeper connections with friends and acquaintances
  16. Helping those in need and making a positive impact on the world
  17. Taking a chance on love and relationships
  18. Leaving a job or situation that makes you unhappy
  19. Expressing gratitude and appreciation to those who have helped you
  20. Living life without regrets, and doing everything you can to create a fulfilling and meaningful existence.

20 Last Time with your fast growing kids

  1. The last time they fit in your lap.
  2. The last time they need help tying their shoes.
  3. The last time they call you “mommy” or “daddy”.
  4. The last time you rock them to sleep.
  5. The last time they believe in Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy.
  6. The last time they ask for your permission to do something.
  7. The last time they bring home a crayon drawing from school.
  8. The last time you push them in a stroller.
  9. The last time they crawl into bed with you in the morning.
  10. The last time they need you to help them with their homework.
  11. The last time you watch their favorite TV show together.
  12. The last time you hold their hand while crossing the street.
  13. The last time you give them a bath.
  14. The last time you read them a bedtime story.
  15. The last time they wear a costume for Halloween.
  16. The last time they make a wish and blow out birthday candles.
  17. The last time you attend a parent-teacher conference for them.
  18. The last time you pack their school lunch.
  19. The last time you tuck them in at night.
  20. The last time you kiss them goodbye before they head off to school.

Do you have any of the above?

I am 40 years old now, if I am lucky, 50% to the end of my life assuming 80 years old. Time is fast running out.

For me on the 20 Regrets of life, I am currently guilty of 2, 4, 10, 11, 14, 18 and 20. 7 out of 20 regrets now. I will aim and hope to erase all these regrets before I am gone from Mother Earth.

For the 20 Last Time with your fast growing kids, I already missed some of time and some of it will be gone soon. Example, my elder kid don’t hug us to sleep anymore, don’t let us carry anymore, don’t need us to bathe him anymore, don’t bug us anymore for small little things, he can be alone, don’t need people to accompany…is growing up very fast. My 2nd kid still need all these, but soon will be gone. Hence, we want to treasure every moment.

We (me and my daughter) drew this on 4 May 2023 because I always bring her out to play in playground (the elder brother grew up and seldom go playground now, her mother don’t like bring them to play).

What about you? It’s not too late to think about it now. Of course the above are not the full list. Have your own list and checked them as you achieve it in your life. No matter how busy you are, stop, think what you want in life so that you won’t regret too much later. Time cannot be turned back no matter how regretful you are one day.

I don’t want to put the photo, but I just want to put the date to remind myself that parent is fast gone too.
Saw this from somewhere on facebook but can’t remember the exact source

People are drawn to dividend investing.

Why? Firstly, dividends provide a regular stream of income, allowing investors to receive a portion of the company’s profits on a periodic basis. This can be particularly attractive for individuals seeking consistent cash flow or looking to supplement their existing income. Additionally, dividend investing is often viewed as a more stable and predictable investment strategy compared to relying solely on capital appreciation.

CAREYOURPRESENT

Money just buy you the chance of freedom.

When you are young and working, you exchange time for money. When you are old, you can have lots of money but you can’t buy time back, especially the things that you have missed while busying striking out in career. Of course, if you love your career, and consciously know that you are missing out the first time your child walk or talk, that’s ok, but if you are the other spectrum, please do something about it.

Your kids grew up and they no longer need you to accompany them. They no longer want to sit on your lap to share/do things with you…all these time you spent in your 9 to 6 or even longer cubicles…can the money that you have earned by you back these?

We always thought we have more time with our old parents, but we are wrong. Time with them is ticking away every day. One day it will suddenly be gone. There is no regret medicine, no reset in time. Gone is gone and cannot come back. No matter you are billionaires or millionaires, you cannot reset this.

We always thought that we have more time with our spouse every day, but we are wrong. One day they will be gone too. When you read this, please go tell your spouse that you love him/her and he or she is the best thing that you ever had in your life.

Cycle of Life: Embracing Every Moment with Joy and Gratitude for a Fulfilling Existence

Posted on April 27, 2023September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

In the midst of a global pandemic and other devastating events, it’s easy to be reminded of how fragile life can be. We see people who were once healthy and vibrant, suddenly taken from us, leaving loved ones behind to mourn their passing.

It’s sad but it is in moments like these that we are reminded of the importance of embracing every single beautiful moment of life. After all, life is not infinite, and each day is a gift that should be cherished.

The last thing anyone wants is to look back on their life with regret, wishing they had taken the time to appreciate the little things. It is very important to embrace every moment of life and live it to the fullest, so that when the last day comes (touch wood), we can look back on our lives with a sense of peace and contentment.

Today is also the 100th day passing of my mum 27 April 2023.

I will always remembered my mum and has written a post on it previous (Farewell Mum. You are always in my mind) and recently there was also the passing of a veteran finance blogger (Farewell Createwealth8888).

Life is fragile, embrace every moment of your life with gratitude and love.

Poem of Life

Let me begin this post with a poem.

Life is a cycle, a journey we embark, From birth to death, through light and dark. Each stage unique, with its own charms, A precious gift, held in our arms.

As a baby, we are pure and new, A bundle of joy, in everything we do. Our parents’ love, a guiding light, As we learn to laugh and take our first flight.

As children, we explore and learn, Our minds and hearts, like a flame that burns. We make new friends, and discover our passion, A world of wonder, in which we fashion.

As teenagers, we search for our place, A time of change, of new embrace. We question and grow, with every step, A journey of life, with no regrets.

As adults, we face challenges and strife, But we never lose sight, of our own light. We work and strive, to build a life, With love and hope, we conquer all strife.

As parents, we hold a precious gift, A new life, a joy that gives us a lift. We guide and teach, with love and care, Our hearts filled with love, beyond compare.

And as we grow old, and the end draws near, We look back on life, with no fear. We smile and reminisce, of days gone by, A life well-lived, with no need to cry.

Life is a cycle, a journey we all take, With each stage, a memory to make. Let us cherish and embrace every part, For life is a gift, a work of art.

Life is a Cycle

Life is a cycle that starts with birth, and it eventually ends with death. In between these two events, we go through many stages and experiences that shape us into the person we are today.

Each stage of life is unique and filled with both joy and challenges, but everything passes by in a flash. Therefore, it is essential to treasure what we have at the moment and live life to the fullest.

When I was young, I just studied and play limitedly. Looking back at those pictures now, I am amazed at how fast time has flown by. It feels like it was only yesterday that I was a baby, and now I am an adult.

As a child, I was full of energy and curiosity. I loved to explore the world around me, and I was always eager to learn new things. I remembered that I don’t like school. But as time went on, I made new friends and discovered a love for learning that has stayed with me to this day.

As a teenager, I went through many emotional and physical changes. I struggled with insecurities and peer pressure, but I also discovered my passions and interests. I started to question the world around me and form my own opinions about life. It was a challenging time, but it helped me to grow into a more independent and confident person.

As I entered my adult years, I faced new challenges in the form of education and career. I worked hard to earn my degree and started my professional life. I faced many setbacks and failures, but I learned to persevere and never give up. I also met the love of my life, and we started a family together.

As a parent, I experienced the joy of bringing a new life into the world and watching my child grow and develop. It was an amazing experience to see my child take their first steps, say their first words, and discover their own passions and interests. It was a reminder that life is a cycle, and that we are all part of something bigger than ourselves.

Now, as I enter my later years (now 40, with my mum not around anymore and dad in poor health), I am reminded of the fragility of life. I see the world changing around me, and I am grateful for the moments of joy and love that I have experienced. I know that eventually, my time will come, and I will pass on to the next stage of existence.

Be Grateful

Life is a cycle, and it is important to treasure what we have at the moment. We never know what tomorrow may bring, so we must make the most of every day.

Each stage of life is unique and valuable, and we should embrace them all with open arms. Whether we are babies, children, teenagers, adults, or elders, we are all part of the same cycle of life. Let’s make it count.

I always write and share articles, especially on dividends which many people love them. Do read them!
