The new world of Decentralized finance (DeFi)

Posted on January 20, 2023September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

Decentralized finance (DeFi)

Decentralized finance (DeFi) refers to the world of digital assets that are traded in a decentralized manner, without a central bank or other financial institution. It’s analogous to the traditional financial system, but without a centralized banking system. So, what does this mean for consumers and businesses? Let’s take a look at some of the biggest differences between DeFi versus traditional finance:

DeFi stands for decentralized finance.

Decentralized finance (DeFi) is a new way of managing your money. It’s different from the traditional financial system because it does not work with banks or other centralized institutions. Instead, DeFi relies on computers and algorithms to keep track of transactions in a network of computers around the world—a decentralized network.

DeFi projects allow you to create your own digital currency or token and use it to make payments using smart contracts, which are computer programs that automatically execute when certain conditions are met. You can also use DeFi as an investment vehicle by buying tokens for rewards like interest payments or returns on investments as well as for goods or services offered by others who accept these currencies.

The most popular examples of DeFi today include MakerDAO and Compound Finance, but there are hundreds more being built every day across all areas where financial transactions take place: lending, payments processing and more!

DeFi is analogous to the traditional financial system, but without a centralized banking system.

DeFi is a decentralized version of the traditional financial system. DeFi allows users to transact with each other without needing a centralized bank. Instead, it uses protocols and applications built on top of Ethereum or other blockchain networks. The Ethereum-based protocols used in DeFi are known as “smart contracts” because they automatically execute when certain conditions are met; these smart contracts can be customized by anyone who wants to build an application on top of them (instead of having to go through legal paperwork).

The biggest differences of DeFi compared to the traditional financial system.

Decentralized finance (DeFi) is a financial system that does not use banks or any centralized authority. Instead, it consists of peer-to-peer transactions between users through the use of smart contracts. This means that all transactions happen directly between individuals who know and trust each other, without the need for third parties such as banks or payment processors.

Decentralization has many advantages over traditional banking systems, which are controlled by central authorities and require middlemen to settle transactions between buyers and sellers:

  • No centralized banking system
  • Decentralized – no middlemen
  • Peer to peer – no central authority/bank

Are there risks in DeFi?

The risks of DeFi are present in any new financial product, but they’re more pronounced with DeFi. As I mentioned above, while there’s no regulatory oversight at the moment (and probably won’t be any time soon), there are some things that you can do to protect yourself as a user.

  • Decentralized finance is still very new and evolving—which means not all protocols are secure yet or even stable enough for daily use. Some of them may have bugs in their code that haven’t been discovered yet, or could lead to an attack on the network.

Does this mean that banks are going away?

No, this does not mean that banks are going away. Banks will still exist and have a role to play in the future. They can be custodians for the crypto world and provide services to their clients who are interested in crypto assets. Banks are still needed to provide financial services to the masses who don’t want anything more than a savings account or credit card with some spending power on it.

One of the reasons I love blockchain and cryptocurrencies is that they raise awareness of new problems that we haven’t seen before.

One of the reasons I love blockchain and cryptocurrencies is that they raise awareness of new problems that we haven’t seen before. DeFi is a perfect example: a new type of financial system, a new way to think about money, finance, and much more.

Conclusion

The DeFi movement is still in its early stages, but I’m excited to see what happens next. As with any new technology, there are risks involved and it will take time for people to get comfortable with the idea that their money is safe when it’s not under the control of a central authority. It also takes time for developers to build solutions that are easy enough for most people to use without extensive training or prior knowledge about decentralized systems. But as long as we keep pushing forward with innovation towards more efficient ways of doing things like sending money around the world at almost no cost – then anything is possible!

People are drawn to dividend investing.

Why? Firstly, dividends provide a regular stream of income, allowing investors to receive a portion of the company’s profits on a periodic basis. This can be particularly attractive for individuals seeking consistent cash flow or looking to supplement their existing income. Additionally, dividend investing is often viewed as a more stable and predictable investment strategy compared to relying solely on capital appreciation.

The Ultimate Guide to Cryptocurrency Investing

Posted on January 12, 2023September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

Introduction

Cryptocurrency is a hot topic right now and it has people talking. But what is cryptocurrency, and why do we need it? In this article, we’ll answer all of your questions about the new age currency. We will also tell you how to buy cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin with ease!

If you want to know about cryptocurrency, read this article.

If you want to know about cryptocurrency, read this article.

If you are thinking of investing in cryptocurrency, this guide is for you. It will cover everything from the basics of what a cryptocurrency is to why it’s important and how to invest in them.

If you’re new to cryptocurrencies, or if all the buzz around Bitcoin makes your head spin, then this guide will help clear up some common misconceptions and give you a solid foundation on which to build your knowledge base.

What is cryptocurrency and why is it so important?

While you may have heard of cryptocurrency, it’s still new to many people. So what is cryptocurrency? Cryptocurrency is digital currency that uses encryption to verify transactions. The first form of digital currency was Bitcoin, which was released in 2009 and became the first decentralized cryptocurrency. Bitcoin uses a blockchain to verify transactions and make sure that no double-spending can occur (where someone spends money twice). Other forms of cryptocurrencies were created after Bitcoin such as Etherium.

Cryptocurrency has revolutionized how we transact with each other by allowing people to send payments directly from one person to another without needing an intermediary such as PayPal or your bank account number.

Cryptocurrency is a new way to transact that has been revolutionary to many people.

Cryptocurrency is a new way to transact that has been revolutionary to many people. Cryptocurrency has the potential to change the world as we know it, and it’s important for everyone to know what cryptocurrency is and how it can be used in their lives.

The first thing you should know about cryptocurrency is that it’s a new way of doing things. Cryptocurrency differs from normal currency in that it exists only on the internet and isn’t backed by any government or bank, making it an independent currency system not controlled by any one institution or authority.

Cryptocurrency can be used as money because users can buy goods with it, sell services for it, or exchange them for other currencies such as US dollars at an exchange rate set by supply and demand for each particular coin (Bitcoin). The most popular cryptocurrencies are Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Litecoin (LTC) which have gained popularity among investors since they were created back in 2009 when Bitcoin was first launched by its anonymous creator Satoshi Nakamoto who remains anonymous today despite being worth over $10 billion USD according to Forbes Magazine estimates!

A Short History of Money, Or Why Bitcoin Matters

Money has been around for thousands of years, but it’s changed over time. Money was once a physical thing—a gold coin or a stack of silver coins. But now money is digital. We use credit cards and debit cards to pay for things instead of carrying cash around in our pockets. Cryptocurrency—the latest form of money—takes this idea even further: it’s not just digital, but also decentralized and encrypted, so that no one can control it except the people who use it (and maybe criminals). The first successful cryptocurrency is Bitcoin, which was introduced in 2009 by an anonymous person who called himself Satoshi Nakamoto (probably not his real name). Since its launch, more than 2200 different types have been created! You can also read about Bitcoin Dominance via this page that I have written previously.

Bitcoin Dominance huh?

Understanding the blockchain

To understand what blockchain is, you have to first know what it does. Blockchain is a decentralized ledger that enables anyone on the network to access the database and add data to it. It’s basically a public ledger that contains records of all transactions that have ever taken place within the network in chronological order. This allows for transparency and accountability since everyone can see what information has been added to the database and who added it.

Finally, blockchain technology makes records permanent in an immutable manner by having each block refer back to its previous block in order for any changes made within one block not to be included in another one (as would happen with regular databases). Each block has its own unique identifier which makes them more secure than traditional databases because they can’t be hacked into once they are created; they are only accessible via private keys which only those who created them will know how too find out how too get this information without someone else knowing about your secret key codes!

What are the benefits of cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency is by far the best and most secure way to transact money, especially if you are looking to buy or sell things online. It’s anonymous, fast, cheap and completely decentralized.

Before we dive into the details of how cryptocurrency works, let’s take a look at its benefits:

  • It’s fast and cheap: Cryptocurrency transactions happen almost instantly compared to other payment methods such as PayPal which can take up to three days for confirmation. There are no middlemen involved in a transaction either so there aren’t any fees associated with using it. The fee for using Bitcoin as an example is less than half of what PayPal charges (0 BTC vs 2%+).
  • It’s anonymous: Unless you want people knowing who you are when buying something on Amazon or eBay then crypto provides complete anonymity when making purchases online. You don’t need any personal information apart from an address where they can send funds when purchasing something off someone else through blockchain technology – the same technology used within cryptocurrencies themselves! This makes it perfect for businesses who want to keep their personal information safe while still being able to accept payments through these platforms without fear of getting hacked.

Types of Cryptocurrencies

There are many types of cryptocurrencies, and they are all different in their structure and purpose. Cryptocurrencies can be divided into three distinct categories:

  • Currencies (such as Bitcoin)
  • Platforms (such as Ethereum)
  • Privacy Coins

Previously I have written an article on this too. You may wish to read more to learn more.

What! There are thousands of Crypto Coins?

Terminologies in Cryptocurrency

There are many terminologies in Cryptocurrency, for those who are new to this, you may wish to read about this in my previous article below.

De-mystifying terminologies in Crypto

How to buy Cryptocurrency

There are a few different ways to buy cryptocurrency. The most common way is through a centralized exchange, and you can use fiat money, credit cards, bank transfers, or wire transfers.

If you want to buy cryptocurrency using fiat currency (USD, CAD etc.), simply find an exchange that accepts your local currency. Coinbase supports USD and Euros for example but if you live somewhere else like Australia or Europe then there may be other options available for purchasing your first coins. When buying with fiat currencies on an exchange remember that it can take several hours for the funds to show up in your account depending on how busy things are at both ends of the transaction – so don’t panic if they don’t immediately appear!

Crypto Wallets

Given the current FUDs (fear, uncertainty, doubt) about centralized exchange, such as the recent collapse about FTX and the bear market of Cryptocurrency, please put your precious crypto coins into hardware wallets. However, the concepts of Crypto Wallets may be very difficult to be understood by many people, including those who already know how to buy and owned Cryptocurrency. I have previously created an Indepth post to explain hard/cold wallets and how it works. Please read the guide below.

Guide – Managing your Crypto Wallets

For those who want to start without the hardware wallet but would like to create one wallet for free to try. You may wish to consider Metamask – the most common wallet used in Cryptocurrency for now, especially for interacting with the DeFi site. You may wish to refer to my guide below.

Guide to create Metamask wallet

The future of cryptocurrency.

The future of cryptocurrency is still unclear. Cryptocurrency is a new way to transact that has been revolutionary for many people, but the market is uncertain. There will be more innovation in the cryptocurrency space and it will continue to grow and evolve from here on out. Cryptocurrency will eventually become mainstream and become a part of our everyday lives, just like debit cards and credit cards are today.

However, if you are looking from investment point of view, I would strongly support to DCA into Bitcoin and Ethereum (King and Queen of Crypto), the future potential is enormous! Bitcoin is like physical gold whereas Ethereum is the main mode of transaction.

A summary of the entire article

Cryptocurrency is a digital currency that uses cryptography to secure transactions and control the creation of new units. There are many different types of cryptocurrencies, but the most popular ones are Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Cryptocurrency is often called a “digital currency” or “virtual currency”, but those terms can be misleading since they don’t actually refer to any specific type of money. Instead, cryptocurrency should be considered as an asset class like stocks or bonds that you can buy and sell on exchanges (like shares on a stock market). Cryptocurrency does not exist in physical form; rather it exists only as records of transactions stored on blockchain networks distributed across the internet. Therefore if someone asks you for some cash so that he/she can buy some Bitcoins from you—please don’t do it!

Conclusion

We hope this article has helped you gain a deeper understanding of the world of cryptocurrency. What started as an idea has now become a revolutionary way to transact that is changing the way we think about money. Whether you want to invest in this new technology or ride its wave, we encourage you to educate yourself on the topic and make sure that your decision is informed by facts rather than hype.

Free guide to self-custody in Cryptocurrency

Posted on December 23, 2022September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

Current Cryptocurrency Market

If we look around, Crypto is in a bear market now. Many Defi Site got rugpull, hacked, exchanges collapses (even the recent deemed as big and safe FTX also failed). Currently there are also FUDs about Binance, the biggest exchange in Crypto.

For those not in Crypto, FUD stands for “fear, uncertainty, and doubt”. Who know if Binance will really collapse. Personally I think it is quite unlikely but who knows? Hence, the holy grail of Cryptocurrency is always true.

Not your wallet, not your coins.

Everyone should owned hardware wallets and keep your own coins. However, I understand that this is difficult as not everyone know how to do it. Hence, a lot of people just put their faith (their hard earned money) in exchange instead of self-custody.

What are Crypto Wallets?

Firstly, what are Crypto Wallets?

Cryptocurrency wallets are digital storage devices that store a collection of digital currency. The wallet software maintains the private keys necessary to access and spend the currency. If you have several different cryptocurrencies, it’s important to have wallets that supports all of them and allows you to send and receive funds.

Type of Wallets

Different types of cryptocurrency wallets that one may heard of include:

Desktop wallets: Software wallets stored on your computer. Most desktop wallets allow you to control your private keys with a user interface.

Mobile wallets: Mobile apps that connect directly to the blockchain for sending or receiving digital currency. Some mobile wallets require users to authenticate their identity using bio-metrics or other methods.

Hardware wallets: Hardware devices that hold private keys offline and provide secure multi-Sig support for confirming transactions when needed. Hardware wallet options can be purchased online or in physical stores.

Hot Wallets – These are the most common type of wallets. When you open a hot wallet, your funds are immediately available for transfers or withdrawals. Hot wallets are also called personal wallets because they’re used by a single person or group of people at any given time. This can be risky because if someone else gets access to your computer or phone and steals your funds, it’s gone forever. You need to be very careful when using this type of wallet because no one else should have access to it but you!

Cold Wallets – Cold wallets store your private keys offline in an encrypted format (such as on a USB flash drive) so that only you have control over them. This means that even if someone steals your laptop, they can’t get access to your Crypto unless they know where it is located physically (in which case they can just take it). The best way to use this type of wallet is with a hardware device like Trezor or Ledger Nano S or X.

What is self-custody?

Self-custody refers to the act of holding and managing your own cryptocurrency, rather than entrusting it to a third party such as an exchange. This means that you are responsible for the security of your own cryptocurrency and have complete control over it.

There are several ways to self-custody your cryptocurrency, including:

  1. Using a hardware wallet: A hardware wallet is a physical device that stores your cryptocurrency offline. It allows you to securely store your cryptocurrency, and you can use it to make transactions by connecting it to your computer or smartphone.
  2. Using a software wallet: A software wallet is a digital wallet that you can download to your computer or mobile device. It allows you to store, send, and receive cryptocurrency, and you have complete control over your private keys.

Although self-custody can provide greater security and control over your cryptocurrency, but it also requires you to take more responsibility for the security of your assets. If you lose your private keys or your hardware or software wallet is compromised, you may lose access to your cryptocurrency. It’s important to carefully consider the risks and benefits before deciding to self-custody your cryptocurrency.

Free guide to self-custody in Cryptocurrency

Hence, for those who want to learn how to self-custody in Cryptocurrency using Metamask with Ledger (one of the most common wallet used). I have put up a guide which you can download.

Please go to my referrals and ebooks page to download (Its at the bottom section under Ebooks).

Your kids grew up and they no longer need you to accompany them. They no longer want to sit on your lap to share/do things with you…all these time you spent in your 9 to 6 or even longer cubicles…can the money that you have earned by you back these?

We always thought we have more time with our old parents, but we are wrong. Time with them is ticking away every day. One day it will suddenly be gone. There is no regret medicine, no reset in time. Gone is gone and cannot come back. No matter you are billionaires or millionaires, you cannot reset this.

We always thought that we have more time with our spouse every day, but we are wrong. One day they will be gone too. When you read this, please go tell your spouse that you love him/her and he or she is the best thing that you ever had in your life.

Powerful alternatives of Crypto Wallets

Posted on December 8, 2022September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

No Privacy in Decentralized Crypto

One of the long-term benefits/attractions of Crypto currency is that it is decentralized, there is no need KYC this and that. You just need to create seed phrases to generate a public address using decentralised Crypto Wallets. However, after the FTX collapses, there was a change in private policy for Metamask – the most used wallets by users in the Crypto world.

Source

Infura (owned by Consensys) now can collect your IP address and ETH address whenever you make a transaction. Omg! What happen to decentralization? Privacy? Is crypto heading towards the road of our usual banks with so many KYC? This leads to people seeking alternatived to Metamask.

There are four things that can do.

  • Use VPN
  • Change RPC
  • Use another wallet
  • Do nothing and just accept it

For this article, I will share the most common other alternative wallets that are used by people.

(1) XDEFI Wallet

This is one of the better wallets that I like it very much. The number of users is about 150k which is much lower than the wallets that I am going to share later.

https://www.xdefi.io/

However, one key advantage of XDEFI Wallet is that it is a multichain wallet that allows you to securely store, swap, and send Crypto and NFTs across 15 blockchains. One just need to setup ledger and connect to this which allow you to access multichain! One wallet solves all! You can see the screenshots below on the chains that they are currently supporting. There are also more chains coming up!

https://www.xdefi.io/

(2) Trust Wallet

Trust Wallet is one of the leading crypto wallets in web3. They were acquired by Binance in 2018 (the biggest most powerful centralized exchange).

https://trustwallet.com/

One can buy, store, collect NFTs, exchange & earn crypto. There are 25 million+ people using it and provide great security and credibility.

(3) Coinbase Wallet

Coinbase Global Inc is one of the majority crypto exchange that is listed. They have the non-custodian wallet Coinbase Wallet. From the horse mouth itself, Coinbase Wallet supports hundreds of thousands of coins and a whole world of decentralized apps. It’s your crypto – use it how and where you’d like.

https://www.coinbase.com/wallet

Conclusion

Thanks for reading. Of course, there are more wallets available in the market. Regardless of which wallets that you are using, please use a hardware device such as Ledger. As famous saying goes, not your key not your coins.

For those who are new to wallets, all these wallets are just interface (software) to access your public key. You just need to connect your ledger to these wallets and select the keys that you want to access in each wallet. Hence, you can use any wallets as long as you have your ledger. For those who want to learn more can read by earlier post on Guide – Managing your Crypto Wallets.

Good articles that you should read!

I always write and share articles, especially on dividends which many people love them. Do read them!

Free Money in Crypto

Posted on November 21, 2022September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

People always like free things. Free samples, buy 1 get 1 buy, free tasting, buy this and get that free etc….These are the common things that we all have heard and rush to get it.
How about free things in Crypto? Do you like it? Of course! However, how to get free things? Are there really free things in Crypto? Yes! Do read on.

In Crypto, there is something very special call “airdrops” which can give free money (tokens) to people who did some tasks. Basically, this is a marketing strategy by the new teams what create a new token that involves sending coins or tokens to crypto wallet addresses. Small amounts of the new tokens are sent to the wallets of active members of the blockchain community for free or in return for a small service, such as retweeting a post sent by the company issuing the currency. The ultimate goal of a crypto airdrop is to promote awareness and circulation of a new token or coin. (https://www.investopedia.com/terms/a/airdrop-cryptocurrency.asp)

How do I get the airdrops?

If one does your research to find out the new things in Crypto (or some longer protocols/DeFi sites with no tokens), you may discover that some the key team members hinted for an airdrop or confirm an airdrop. For those confirm an airdrop, they would tell you what are the tasks that you need to do in order to qualify for it. Sometimes, the snapshots are already taken before the announcement, and you won’t be eligible for it. There are few sites who share about the current/upcoming airdrops etc. You can refer to the last few rows of my page below.

Useful Crypto Sites

Most of the time, even for free things, we need to do our homework. Look for those protocols with big VCs, big fundings that have been there for quite some time and with many users. Go to their discords, their sites, research/interact with the founding teams to get some hints if they will give an airdrop. Once you have found out, do your work. Most of the time, the airdrops are generally very little with not many values. But there are cases where the airdrops really give lots of money, can be xxxx or even xxxxx. Of course, you need to do your research. There are people who planned way in advance, creating many wallets, like 20 wallets etc, do various things in anticipation of the airdrops. There are lots of works and time involved.

Recent potential airdrops

Let me share some of the recent potential big airdrops.

(1) Metamask

The team Consensys hinted an airdrop. But how to qualify for it? Currently, there are no official announcements on the tasks need to qualify for it, but we can guess/speculate it. If you wait for official announcement, it may be too late as snapshots may have already been taken. Generally, to qualify for airdrops, it involved more interaction with the protocol itself. For Metamask, given the fundings and the scale of Metamask, doing the tasks below may lead you to high profit airdrops.

Token Swap using Metamask

Steps:
Go to main menu in Metamask
Click on the blue Swap icon
Trade some $ETH for any token
Do more token swaps for all the chains the Metamask supports, sometimes volume/size of trade matters.

Use Metamask Bridge to bridge tokens

Steps:
Go to https://portfolio.metamask.io/bridge
Connect your wallet
Select Ethereum as 1st network
Choose second network – Bridge
You can bridge to Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche currently and vice versa
Do more bridges between for all the chains the Metamask supports, sometimes volume/size of trade matters.

Create a Gnosis Safe Wallet

ConsenSys and Gnosis Safe announced a partnership, hence airdops may rewards may come to users.

Steps:
Go to https://app.safe.global/welcome
Connect your wallet
Create a Multisig Safe wallet

(2) Arbitrium

Bridge tokens to Arbitrium using the OFFICAL bridge (remember to keep some ETH as gas fee)

Steps:
Go to https://bridge.arbitrum.io/
Bridge to and from Abritrium One (don’t forget Arbitrium Nova)
Do more bridges transfers, sometimes volume/size of trade matters.

Interact with as many dapps as possible in Arbitrium

Steps:
Go to https://portal.arbitrum.one/, you can find all the dapps here. Go swap tokens, participate in LP, trade etc…

Participate in Guild Tasks

Steps:
Go to https://guild.xyz/arbitrum to participate in the tasks, you can manually go participate in the tasks or use the smart contracts created by https://twitter.com/fullsendbripto/status/1589271671198085120

Do note that the above are speculation on how to get the airdrops based on past experiences on criterias to get the airdrops. Since most of these are free or cost very little but with potential great rewards, why not try?

Useful Sites for Cryptos

Posted on November 8, 2022September 27, 2023 by careyourpresent

In Crypto, there are many scam sites coming up everyday. Clicking a wrong site and connect your wallet to the site can be detrimental and may even cause you to lose your precious coin in your wallet. A good practise is to bookmark and keep the sites in your bookmark instead of use search engine to find each time.

For those who are new to Crypto, you can refer to bookmark this page for the useful sites for Crypto.
